Island Batik's February Challenge and BlogHop requires the ambassadors to use their assigned Fall 2024 collection (I got Radiant Burst) and the Studio 180 Design Tool (I got Wing Clipper) to make a Table Runner or a Bed Runner.
Sounds simple? Yes. But wait there is more.
1. We must make at least 12 units.
2. Use as many fabrics (from the 20 in the collection) as possible.
NOW, we have a challenge :-)
Well, here is my response.
Glowing Front |
And I used leftover blocks from Mirabelle to make the backing, so it is two-sided.

Do you remember Lula May?
The scraps leftover from Lula May became Signal Sam.
Signal Sam |
Signal Sam is my response to the December Challenge which states "December brings another month to embark on your own project, regardless of its size, theme, or technique! Seize this chance to unleash your creativity without constraints. Enjoy the process!"
Leftover Strip from Lula May |
There is something very satisfying about taking the scraps from a completed quilt and making a brand new one. I definitely enjoyed the process.

Designed in EQ8, Diva was published in Make Modern Issue 58. Now, she is available as a standalone pattern in my Etsy Shop.
I made Diva using the Vintage Charm collection, combined with Island Batik Solids in Red, Orange, Yellow and Fuchsia. The focus fabric strip sets were scraps leftover from making Kashvi, but there is nothing scrappy about Diva!
Finishing at 51" by 68" she glides in royal splendor. And although you may think that she is set in her ways, she is very adaptable. I encourage you to take a look at the various ...

Welcome to City Blocks – my first quilt book! Published by Leisure Arts and already on sale, this book features 32 blocks I designed, each portraying a place or an experience in a city. There are also six coordinating, smaller projects, many diagrams, and easy-to-follow instructions.
Those of you who have been following me since I began this blog and my Etsy store (2013!) will remember our Sew Along. We made a block every two weeks ...

There are so many beautiful peachy hues to choose from.

Cantaloupe (Island Batik Basic) from the Opulent Oranges was the closest match for Peach Fuzz.

So many ideas and so little time. I wanted to create something simple and minimalist different from Blush (a Colorwash inspired quilt top), and Peach on Earth (improv pieced quilt).
After playing with shapes, fabrics and layouts in EQ8, I chose this design.

Make this beginner-friendly modern batik quilt using your favorite collection or as a scrap buster! One easy quilt block is all it takes!

Nature Study is my latest quilt, published in the February 2024 American Patchwork & Quilting issue. It measures 67″ x 82″, and the blocks finish at 6″. I used greens and blues from my batik fabric ‘collection’ – I still have enough fabric to make five quilts in the same palette! The photographer, Adam Albright, always transforms my quilts into works of art when he ...

Made with Ruby Star Society Fabrics (Reverie by Melody Miller) provided by Moda, it is a simple design that exploits the value gradations for maximum effect. Put another way, the Prints Charming did the heavy lifting and I gathered the compliments :-)
Cold Day, Warm Quilt |
For some reason, the blog publication of this quilt slipped through the cracks. But here we are now.
Window Dressing finished at 60" by 80", making it a perfect size ...

To make Nihal, I used a pack of 10" squares - Cheers, designed by Carl and Linda Sullivan of Colourwerx. Cheers is from the Island Batik Spring 2022 Collection. I also used Island Batik Solid light grey fabric for accent and binding.

Topsy Turvy in Honeycomb Fabrics |
I first made Topsy Turvy using the scraps left over from the Island Batik "Make it Modern" Blog Hop and Challenge. Many refinements later, making it suitable for 2.5" precut strips, writing and rewriting and then correcting the pattern, Topsy Turvy is now available as a standalone pattern.

With the new year here, we want to share a story that is near and dear to our hearts, called Patchwork Stories. Here at AGF, we want to cover our world with beautiful fabrics and go back to what is most meaningful- creating things from our hands. This movement of patchwork is becoming more influential than ever, and it’s being represented not just in fashion but in all the things that surround us.
This is the story of how we incorporate patchwork and the role it can play in your everyday life! This series shows you more than pretty ...
Spooky season is here! One of my favorite holidays is Halloween because we get to do so many fun projects here at the studio. This time around the marketing team and I were thinking about all the projects we can create this season so we started looking for inspiration at things we’ve done in the past!
That’s when we came across a super sweet quilt block I sewed for Instagram! Where I pieced some strips of Halloween-inspired colors from our Pure Solids range, applied Decostitch Elements in “Stellar” on top, and reverse appliqued to reveal the ...
Welcome back!

There are so many ways to create them, but here at AGF, we've discovered a whole new look.
We like to call it the Stroked Flying Geese, a technique ...

Is anyone else a Spring baby? My birthday is at the end of March, and of course, Springtime is one of my favorite times of the year! Last year during spring, the world turned upside down and we can all admit it has been a wild ride, but I’m so thankful to have found a new hobby that brought me joy to my life- Gardening! I started my gardening journey 6 months ago, by creating my own little raised bed in my backyard, and as soon as my first tomato seed sprouted, I fell in love. Now that spring ...
